This memorial depicts all the different groups of people who were held here. Everyone had to wear a coloured triangle on their clothes (a star if you were Jewish), with the colour representing the reason you were there. Red for political prisoner, Blue for a German who had previously fled Germany etc. You had to wear pink if you were gay, there are no pink stars here as this was still apparently a taboo subject when the memorial was erected. This has since been put right with the completion of a second memorial to the gay people who were held here. |
