4. Teacher's Pet. |
| | |
A replacement teacher turns out to be more monster than woman. |

Great quotes: |
| | |
| Natlie French. |
- Cordelia: "I'm not saying that we should kill a teacher every day just so I can lose weight, but you have to look on the bright side, like how used Mercedes still have leather seats."
- Xander: "Your hands are really... serrated!"
- Ms French ask Xander if he has ever been with a woman before, Xander responds: "You mean... like in the same room?"
- Buffy: "Destructo-girl!"

Fantastic moments: |
| | |
| The axe-man rocks! |
- Xander's 'axe-man' dream sequence is great, "...finish my solo and kiss you like you've never been kissed before..."
- Giles doesn't have much time for the Californian weather. I'm with him 100%, a bit of cloud and drizzle never harmed anyone.

Duff Bits: |
| | |
- Buffy uses a can of bug-spray on Ms French. That's just silly.
- Just like in the previous episode, Buffy jumps to the right conclusion about what is going on miles too quickly.
- Does anyone else think that the episode suffers from looking a little camp? The monster looks like a Doctor Who reject while Dr Gregory is far too nice, it's obvious he's going to die.

Dean's comments: |
| | |
| | Willow and Buffy are strangely entertained by Xander's teen angst. | This is the first of many Xander-based comedy episodes. The plot helps to deepen the Buffy-Willow-Xander friendship triangle, as well as the episode containing quite a lot of 'firsts' for the series; the first time Angel and Buffy exchange smiles, the first time Buffy goes 'patrolling', the first time Xander shows jealousy of Angel and the first time Buffy comes across as the natural 'leader' of the scoobies. I particularly enjoyed the early scene in the cafeteria when Buffy tells Xander why an older woman is interested in him ("...a younger man is too desperate to be worried by the surgical improvements...") while he and Blaine exchange lame comebacks about whether it's better to be first or second. Overall this is the early BtVS formula working fairly well, but nothing desperately special. | |
