  4. Inca Mummy Girl.

Xander falls for an exchange student, but she's clearly not just a girl.

  Great quotes:

Ampada.
  • Buffy: "Ubersuck" Very 'Californian teen'.
  • Xander: "God's gift to the bell curve", maths comedy, hooray!
  • Xander: "You're not a Praying Mantis are you?", one for the fans.
  • Xander having a double take: "Really, great! ... Really, great!"

  Fantastic moments:

  • Oz's first appearance; fantastically understated, undeniably 'cool'.
  • Willow making her decision to move past her Xander crush is an important step for the character, plus she's just so dammed cute!
  • Oz's reaction to Willow's Eskimo costume isn't exactly what we were expecting.

  Duff Bits:

  • Does anyone else think this episode is a little racist?
  • Willow overhearing Xander talking about her is really clumsy and could have been a little subtler.
  • Ampada speaks good English for a 500-year-old Incan Mummy.
  • Ampada can't possibly have fallen for Xander that quickly, I just don't buy it.
  • Some of the footage used in the episode is very grainy. Low budget?
  • The entire plot is very one-dimensional, there are no twists!

  Dean's comments:

Oz is the only good thing about this episode.
One of the lamest episodes of the entire series, the comedy is there but there's nothing else, no characterisation and an almost irrelevant plot. Giles' assumption that Ampada can read ancient Peruvian inscriptions simply because she's from South America should be insulting really. Note that all the best bits of this episode involve Willow making a decision to get over her crush on Xander and Oz's introduction, that shouldn't be the case in what is essentially a Xander episode.
