  9. The Puppet Show.

A killer is on the loose in the school's talent show.

  Great quotes:

Sid the dummy.
  • Xander: "Does anyone else feel like they've been Kaiser suased?"
  • Xander on the talent show: "I don't have a lot of pride but I have enough that I don't have to do this!"
  • Snyder: "Principal Flutie would have said that kids have feelings, kids need understanding. That's the kind of woolly-headed liberal thinking that leads to being eaten."
  • Snyder: "There are things I will not tolerate: students being on campus after school, horrible murders with hearts being cut out... and also smoking."
  • Buffy: "...finagle..."

  Fantastic moments:

  • The opening scene before the credits is wonderful. First we have the 'something evil is brewing' sequence before Cordelia's lame singing (plus Giles' reactions to the singing) and the appalling tuba recital before Snyder is introduced.
  • The way Giles gets rid of Cordelia by eyeing up her hair is fabulous.

  Duff Bits:

  • Sid the dummy thinks Buffy is the demon then. Well she clearly didn't kill Emily, she is investigating the death and she has a rock solid alibi. That's some rubbish detective work from Sid. How many other people has he killed thinking they were demons?

  Dean's comments:

The new Principal chats with Giles.
An above-average 'who-dunnit' tale made much better than it might have been by the introduction of Armin Shimmerman as the new school principal. Everyone immediately hates Snyder, but we love to hate him and therefore his presence on screen is a joyous event. The series is introducing its semi-regular characters now what with Jenny Calendar in the last episode and Snyder here. As with all murder mystery type stories it is essential to have a bunch of new characters that could be implicated and so it is the perfect time to bring Snyder in. Overall the episode is quite funny and has a decent mystery even if the finale and 'dummy demon killer' plot are a little silly.
